Pink is one of those colours, some people will never wear, whilst others make them a regular in their daily get up. There is something alluring about pink. I’m no psychologist, but apparently, psychologically, it is known to have a calming effect (note to self – where pink in my next bull fight). Or perhaps it’s because pink is complimentary to most skin tones, unless you already have a lot of pink tone in your skin. Some suggest a man who wears pink exudes confidence, yet is sensitive. Pink is easy to coordinate with almost every color in your wardrobe… it goes really well with greys, tans, black, navys and other blues tones. Finally, if you’re still not convinced how great pink is, women love pink and are more likely to give you a second glance! So give pink a try if you haven’t already. Here are a few options that you can incorporate into your wardrobe and ensure you grab second glances from passers by!
Knits and Jumpers
I remember being at a party and sitting back at one stage people watching. There was this guy in a pink jumper and all the girls seemed to gravitate towards him. Perhaps I wasn’t people watching by choice… perhaps they just didn’t like my plain black boring jumper! I must say my girlfriend at the time thought he looked pretty hot too. I don’t recall her buying me a pink jumper though, but it does demonstrate how something as classic and simple as a pink jumper can be a show stopper.
Dress Shirts
Pink shirts are no doubt the easiest ways to introduce pink to your wardrobe. They are easily worn with suits, causal jackets, under knits or vests or on their own with trousers or jeans. I will say that I regularly see a guy at my local coffee shop who often wears pink shirts. He gets many compliments from the friendly staff whenever he does because it breathes new life into his suits and makes him look more distinguished. It’s a winning look that you can wear as more of a feature than one of your every day colours. I wouldn’t wear pink to meeting with a bunch of power hungry conservative guys too often. Pick your audience and wear what is appropriate.
Suits and Trousers
I’m not sure about pink trousers or jackets. I prefer it as more of a feature than the base colour in your ensemble. If you can pull of a pink suit, Spring and summer are probably the only time to conquer this challenge. I know you may be having a hard time visualising this, but when I say suits and trousers I mean light fabrics such as cotton or linen. Perhaps a summer party or wedding is the ideal event for you to try it. Expect some comments though! If you want to start conservatively, wear a pink necktie (checkout out mens ties range) and cufflinks. See how you go with that!
Accessories and T-shirts
If you can’t commit to a more substantial item in pink, start small. Ties, t-shirts, cufflinks, hats or a scarf with pink stripes would be the way to go. Tie and cufflinks are a great way to introduce pink to your suit. We have about 4 ties with a base or splash of pink in them. Check them out here. We also perfectly pantone match our tie colours to our cufflinks and you can see at least 8 pairs of cufflinks that contain an element of pink.
Pink and Blue mens necktie
We hope this gives you a slight indication of when and how you can add pink to your daily dress code to spruce it up a little. How little or how much pink is up to you!
Men’s fashion is a lot different than women’s. Trends do exist, but the classic foundations usually remain. While women’s fashion starts to experiment on different cuts for their dresses, men’s (dress up) fashion often sticks with classical suits and accessories. The cut and the design of the suits changes slightly and accessories change with the seasons. If you are thinking of giving unique gifts for him for 2012, go with accessories that compliment his classic suit. Good men’s ties are excellent gifts as they bring a whole new flavour to that all elegant suit.
Men will always get it right in (from a fashion perspective) by going classic. There’s a reason why the men’s elegant suit, complete with matching accessories commands authority and class time and time again. There is no doubt that a classic look wouldn’t be complete and elegant without a proper men’s tie. And men can always play around with accessories such as mixing and matching the ties they wear to give it a modern twist. Below are some men’s ties we recommend for the season. They are 100% silk and they are set to give a modern twist to that classic suit.
This colourful tie exudes class, combined with modernism and playfulness. It looks like an elegant tie, but the colors somehow give away a retro appeal. This tie would be a fantastic compliment to his white, light green, blue, or light pink shirt and is a must have for this season. Bookmark this item if you are looking for great gift ideas for him.
This tie provides another great example of bringing playfulness and modernism into that classic suit. The silk construction of the tie enables it to be highly compatible with plain blue or white shirts. The embroideries on the other hand give a beachcomber appeal as it would generally resemble a Hawaiian polo worn while sipping drinks at the beach. This lovely tie talks a lot about striking a balance between elegance and modernism and is an ideal candidate for favourite guys gifts.
The elegant straight white embroidery of this silk tie provides the fine line between good and great. As a plain blue tie, it completes the elegant suit. But by adding the thin white stripe, it brings the appeal of a navy or sailor uniform into the equation. Everyone loves a man in a uniform, so this tie should be a sure hit.
These wonderful gifts add a subtle touch that change a man’s wardrobe from simply good looking to elegantly stunning. Tune in for more fantastic male gift ideas coming your way from malebox.
It has always been a struggle for men to look sharp, classy and formal during the hotter months of the year. Everyone gets fixated on their coat and tie fashion even if it seems too warm to wear a coat. Often, men who seem classy and stylish with their coats on, are arrested by the fashion and social police once they take it off and potentially expose sweaty armpits. If you are thinking of giving unique mens gifts it would definitely be unwise to give a gift not suited for the warmer months ahead. If you are struggling to find new gift ideas for men, look at things that would compliment his getup during the warmer months ahead. It would be better for him to dress more appropriately for the weather conditions, than stick to his old coat and tie amidst the heat and humidity. Here are a few tips on some guys gifts that you can give to keep fresh and spice up his summer outfits.
Men’s gifts to help him freshen up on warm days– Sometime’s a man has to do what he needs to do. Depending on the occasion, he still may need to suit up even during the baking weather. Think corporate men or a more typical example… the wedding! On occasions like these, accessories (for his bathroom) such as a face care package or a shaving soap would help him freshen up on those scorching days and keep his cool under the pressure of his traditional suit.
Men’s gift accessories that accentuate his overall style – Men will eventually take their coats off and just wear an office shirt to work as the temperature rises. As the cold weather slowly dissipates, most of them would fail to notice that they have been constantly updating their winter wardrobe and have slowly ignored accessories to compliment their business shirts. As the thick coat hibernates out of the men’s summer fashion scene, accessories such as men’s ties, belts, hats, and cufflinks emerge as centre pieces to his ensemble; and would be a perfect gift for him.
These accessories would match with his business shirts and would go assist him trying to acclimatise to the warmer weather.
At malebox, you are sure to get it right as they stock the perfect collection of summer gifts for men that are now just a click away. Come and see innovative men’s gift ideas now.

The Spring Carnival Racing season is on. If you are looking for the proper gift for him you have come to the right place to transform your man to dress up to the occasion.
Men’s fashion always go for functionality over style, comfort over aesthetics, but this season is an exception. The Melbourne Cup Carnival is one of the few events where men are expected to display their true style with fantastic suits, ties, shoes and even hats. While most of the blokes think that the race season is just a showcase for women to show their fashion prowess, they do not notice that the women are looking (and expecting ) that the men would match their dresses as well.
Skinny suits are always in for the season. As springtime and the excitement of the race brings warmth to the weather, accessories that match suits made of lightweight wool, silk and cashmere are definitely the top choice in fabrics Match your suit with great dark leather shoes and a belt. If your man is the adventurous type and you are having a hard time finding gifts for him, have a try at some little changes and play with the accessories to liven up the mood. Three piece suits are the in thing this year with the classic combo raising the race wear standards at the Melbourne Cup.
Make His Outfit Stand Out In a Good Way
Trust that every fashionable male will wear a suit and a hat while on the race. The game is won by matching his suit with the proper accessory that fits his built and personality. The right accessories such as custom cufflinks and scarves make his style a class above the rest. Do not let him wear a black suit. Have him go for charcoal or navy colour instead. Lighter colours would suit younger men and would celebrate their youth. Have him play around with different colours with his ties and handkerchiefs, but just make sure they aren’t an eye-sore for other people. Use light colours which can lift any outfit and mix it with bold colours to create an urbane and edgy men’s race wear look.
Always Remember.
Hats are definitely back in men’s fashion. The gangster look is big and very much favoured and is completed with the loft hat. Don’t forget to have him wear a matching pair of sunnies as well to protect his eyes and for that extra edge. Wearing statement ties and socks are a NO NO. The key is to keep the getup professional and classy. His belt and shoes should match ALL THE TIME, and grey shoes should be avoided for the races. Have your man follow these tips to give him for a perfect time at the race.
It can be very difficult for the modern man to stay abreast of the latest trends, especially if one leads a hectic lifestyle. It can also be very time consuming to keep updated and do all the dirty work by making sure your most important fashion pieces never go out of style. If you are tired of running around trying to keep yourself up to date with what is latest, simply don’t. Simply go classic. Here are some of the reasons why we believe that this is best for you.
1) The classic look never goes out of style – Update those ties and cuffs with new ones. Go for the ties with traditional designs such as the striped ones. If you are the playful and adventurous type, play with tie colours and wear a blue blossom or avocado shade. Check out our latest collection of Tie and Cuffs Combo wherein you get a matching elegant tie and cuff that would complete your classical look.
2) The classic style exudes elegance and power – Adding a matching cufflink to that shirt, having a trendy pocket hanky ready whenever needed, whipping out that classic money clip, pulling out a stylish compendium are just some of the little things that would make your style a cut above the rest. It’s those little things that count. Check out our latest collections and pick these elegant items that suit you.
3) The classic style has been tested by time to be effective – The latest trends and fads would come and go, but a classical style will always look good even if the fashion police has decided to and an era. It would then be cost effective for you to take care of your ties, cufflinks, and watches. We offer a huge range of elegant tie and belt boxes, watch boxes, and tie holders, built to extend the life of your accessories.
No matter where you go. There would be a part of style that is timeless. It is better to go with these look as you will never be left out with a proper suit and the accessories that complete it.
There is nothing better than putting on your favourite pair of well-worn jeans with a comfortable t-shirt on your down time- be it on the weekend, Casual Friday or after work hours. Especially for those who must wear a suit, silk tie and cufflinks to work, dressing casual is a welcomed idea- it’s comfortable, relaxed, and doesn’t take a lot of planning.
Some guys even prefer to just grab whatever is on top of the laundry pile! While we don’t recommend this method of wardrobe planning in men’s fashion, we realize that at some point or another, most men usually fall into the jeans/t shirt rut and need some ideas to freshen up their casual look.
Here are some simple and easy to achieve casual looks that can breathe new life into your wardrobe. All of the key items can be purchased at American Apparel and matched with pieces that are already in your closet- perfect for the man who hates to shop!
Casual Look 1 : The Raglan Shirt
A welcomed addition to any man’s wardrobe is a two-tone raglan shirt. This classic, sporty shirt usually comes in a ¾ sleeve for something that is a bit more formal than a t shirt, but still retains that laid back look. Try something bright and bold and complete the outfit with distressed denim and matching Converse.
Casual Look 2: The Lightweight Jacket
Hooded jumpers are great for an everyday casual look, but why not try a lightweight jacket in a bright colour like red instead? It will instantly add visual interest to an otherwise plain outfit, creating a stylishly understated look. Wear over a plain crew neck t shirt in white, grey, black or navy and pair with a dark rinse jean for best results.
Casual Look 3: The Hoodie
If you’re not a fan of jackets and prefer to chill out in a hooded jumper instead, choose carefully in order to avoid the “just finished at the gym” look. Hoodies can get worn very easily and start to resemble workout wear, so choose one that is fitted, high quality and rich in colour. These sweatshirts are best paired with crew or v-neck t shirts, and can even be worn with a golf shirt for a preppy look.
Casual Look 4: The Classic White T Shirt
Dressing down never looked so good! There is something eternally cool about wearing a crisp white crew neck t shirt with a great pair of jeans. Faded, dark rinse, black or blue, anything goes with the classic white t shirt. This outfit is an excellent way to show off a new pair of shoes, and works perfectly for men who have a great belt or watch to flaunt.
Don’t be tempted to go too casual and wear track bottoms anywhere other than the gym. Instead, invest in a good pair of jeans that can be worn for any occasion. What works for one man may not work for another, so when selecting a pair of jeans try every style and rinse you can until you find the perfect fit.
And don’t forget, an outfit can only look amazing if you’ve got great skin and hair to match. Need help on these areas? Read about men’s skin care and hair trends to find out more.

Celebrity bling is big business, and all of the top Hollywood stylists know that when it comes to red carpet mens fashion, less is more… or is it? Men are taking more risks with accessorizing and the popularity of wearing cufflinks to formal events is once again rising. A small yet essential detail for a stylish formal look, cufflinks add that extra bit of luxury to any man’s outfit.
But what we all want to know is- what do the celebrities wear when it comes to cufflinks?
The answer, in short, is really expensive designer ones! Costing anywhere from $400 to over $3000 a pair, designer cufflinks do not come cheap. The average Joe can get a great pair of replicas for under $100, but for those who have the cash, why not splash?
Brad Pitt is a fan of Nathan Tim cufflinks, which retail at around $400 a pair. Made of stainless steel and Murano glass, these cufflinks are ultra-modern. Available in circle and oval shapes, these brightly-coloured little gems feature flower designs, tortoiseshell prints and retro circular patterns. For something truly unique, check out their white gold and dinosaur bone (yes, dinosaur bone) cufflinks for a cool $3195.
“Mesozoic era dinosaur bone accompanied by a 2mm round cognac diamond inset in brushed back button. Sixty-five million years old and unearthed form the American Southwest, this dinosaur bone comprises less than five percent of fossilized bone. The rich earthen tones are the direct result of interactions between soil minerals and the dinosaur, creating a unique link between the past and present. Bone color and pattern will vary slightly due to its unique nature.”

S.T. Dupont cufflinks are another celebrity brand of choice for their luxurious designs and of course, for their cool cameo in Casino Royale, as worn by Daniel Craig. Celebrity or not, no man can resist a piece of James Bond style, even when the price tag is set at $300 and up.

At this year’s Oscars, actor, writer and director Stanley Tucci was photographed wearing a set of Bulgari cufflinks. Known for their opulent cufflinks featuring precious stones such as lapis, onyx, mother of pearl and pavé diamonds, it’s no wonder that Bulgari is a favourite cufflink choice amongst the rich and famous.

Fashion mogul and music star P Diddy is known for always looking impeccably-dressed and for being a shameless self-promoter. As the CEO of the Sean John brand, Diddy is not above wearing his own designs including his skull and crossbones cufflinks.

Steven Spielberg is a fan of Faberge cufflinks, and even wore them to pick up his Lifetime Achievement Award in 2006. Hair styles are a critical component of mens fashion and can make a huge difference to your look. Is your hair desperately in need of an update? If you’ve let your hair grow out into a style-less mess or you are guilty of keeping the same haircut for years on end, then make 2010 the year to try something new. Not only will a new hairstyle make you feel better about yourself, but changing your hairstyle can transform your entire look. A good stylist will know how to bring out your best features and give you a cut that flatters your face, but if you are stuck for ideas on what style you want, check out these popular hair trends for 2010:
Hair Trend 1: Texture, Texture, Texture!
Texture is the “must have” look for any haircut this year. Whether you sport a super-short cropped do or a longer layered style, invest in some matte wax or pomade to finger through your hair every morning. The goal is to give your hair definition, direction and volume—only a small amount is needed for maximum results.
Hair Trend 2: The Way Is Forward
Since texture is so important this year, you may be wondering how to style your hair to achieve a modern look. The “rocker” look is right on trend this year, with messy hair being styled forward towards the face. Schwarzkopf Professional demonstrates the texture and forward direction perfectly with their “New Rebel” look:
If you have short to medium layered hair, use pomade to create a messy, forward swept look to get a rebellious, edgy look in minutes.
Hair Trend 3: Side Swept Fringes
Men’s hair as of late has taken a more romantic turn, with longer, layered styles becoming more popular. In 2009, the “Emo” look was hugely popular and men everywhere were letting their hair grow into poetic styles. This year, this look is still popular but with a more refined twist. The focus is on maintaining style and form with longer hair rather than let it grow out into a shapeless mass. One way to create a polished longer look is to cut a side swept fringe that ends at eye level. Create a deep side part and use wax or pomade to coax the fringe towards the side of your face. Use a small amount of wax to add definition to the rest of your ends for a refined longer hairstyle.
For men with short to medium length hair, you can still work the side swept fringe trend by letting the top layers grow out so you can achieve this look:
If texturized hair isn’t your thing, then fear not. This year another hot trend is a throwback to the Golden Age of Hollywood. Perfectly-styled hair (think Ralph Lauren model) that is parted and brushed to the side is one of the most popular hairstyles for men being seen on the catwalk and the red carpet. Men with straight or wavy medium hair can achieve this look easily by using a comb and styling gel. If you have shorter hair, grow the top layers out longer so you have more to work with.
However you choose to update your hairstyle this year, remember not to ignore your face either. Invest in a men’s facial grooming kit for a great complexion that compliments your hair. Try the Italian made Riana Almond and Olive face care pack from malebox. It’s the perfect men’s gift.
Keeping your skin and hair looking great doesn’t involve a great investment of time or money and the results can be truly transformative. Spending that extra 5-10 minutes a day on a proper hairstyling and skin care regime will instantly make you more attractive, confident and stylish.
Anniversary celebrations were held yesterday around Sydney, culminating at Olympic Park for the lighting of the cauldron. As we were having a “sparkling water” prior to the scheduled lighting, the Olympic flame mysteriously burst into life, forcing technicians to re-boot the gas fed mechanism, which delayed the official moment. The Olympic stars eventually made it to the podium where Freeman held her Sydney 2000 torch aloft as the flame was ignited remotely.
Premier Kristina Keneally said while the Olympics were a high point, the city’s greatest achievements were to come – hopefully hosting the FIFA World Cup in 2022. Hopefully some refereeing decisions go our way by then!
As per usual, there were plenty of well-dressed athletes on hand to celebrate this event. As I mentioned last week at Vogue Fashion’s Night Out in Sydney – the skinny tie was in force… If you dont have one at the moment, you are definitely missing out on the hottest look in town.
The celebrations concluded with drinks on the sporting arena and dinner in the Millennium room to honour Australia’s Olympians and Paralympians.
Amongst many highlights, we were privileged to hear from John Coates and Lord Sebastian Coe, president of the London Games organising committee. The former legendary distance runner, who won Olympic gold in 1980 and 1984 over 1500 metres, said Australia and England had much in common in their attitude to sports.
Dimitri Kontopos and Lord Sebastian Coe at the Sydney Olympic 10 year celebrations
“Only three countries in the history of the world in the Olympic movement have been to every winter and summer Games,” Lord Coe said. ”Of course, surprise, surprise – one is Australia and one is Great Britain.”
Amongst the crowds the malebox boys were able to catch up with a number of people including John Howard, Lord Sebastian Coe and John Konrads (Australian 1500m Freestyle Swimmer – Gold Medal 1960 Rome – wearing malebox Signature Blue Shades Tie).

The night ended when chatting to James Tomkins (6 time Olympian) who recommended myself, Mark Bellofiore (Canoe Slalom Olympian) and Harry Kontopos wear less hair product and toughen up a little…. I guess when a triple Olympic Gold Medalist tells you to toughen up, you shouldnt bring up singing in TV commercials…. well I would have if I thought of it…
Last Thursday night’s official launch of Vogue Fashion’s Night Out Sydney was an indication that Sydney’s locals are willing to spend up big on hot brands.
An official opening was held on the steps of the MLC centre with a range of models including Samantha Harris, Rosemary Smith andElyse Taylor to name a few. malebox men were seen tripping over their tongues on numerous occasions…
The city was a flurry of activity with stars mixing it up with shoppers keen on new apparel and accessories. DJ’s in shopfront windows and cocktails were the norm around the CBD. Amongst the celebraties were Cate Blanchett, Ian Thorpe, Rebecca Twigley, Kirk Pengilly, Andrew Kelly, Libby Greig and Layne Beachley to name a few…
The highlight for me was the pre-Ivy drinks and DJ set at Farage in MLC. Joe and the crew put on a fantastic display and reminded me about how great their collection is, for both men and women. Hanging out with Kirk Pengilly and Layne Beachley (check out her range of Blue Kiss swimwear – it’s very cool) reminded me that Aussies who are massive on the world stage are still down to earth individuals not carried away by their success…. Good on you both…

There we so many skinny and slim ties around. If you dont have one at the moment, you are definitely missing out on the hottest look in town. (It’s not for everyone though, so make sure your body shape is suitable!)
After Farage, we were ushered by Kerry Greig (Farage) into Ivy where guests gathered for a few drinks and mixed it up with what seemed like most of the Fashion community. I was last seen eating the Vogue sign, constructed elegantly and tastefully from Lindt Chocolate… now that’s a great ending to the night…
Up until recently, image consultants have had a reputation for working with two types of clients only – the rich and the famous. Hollywood celebrities, jet-setter executives and public figures always had a stylist on hand to ensure that their impeccable image was maintained. However, the rules have changed. People from all walks of life understand that looking good can help you be more confident and successful, and now image consultants work with everyone from company directors to stay-at-home mums. As shorts, polo tees and sandals are just hitting the shops in America and Europe for the summer season, here in Australia it’s all about embracing the darker days of Autumn/Winter 2010. But just because the days are shorter and the weather is cooler, doesn’t mean that our wardrobes must suffer.
In fact, the catwalks are showing some surprisingly bright looks for the fall and winter that are sure to liven up any man’s wardrobe. Here is what the designers and retailers are showing for Autumn/Winter 2010, and how to get the look yourself: (more…)
