Men’s Gifts for The Race Season

The Spring Carnival Racing season is on.  If you are looking for the proper gift for him you have come to the right place to transform your man to dress up to the occasion.

Men’s fashion always go for functionality over style, comfort over aesthetics, but this season is an exception.  The Melbourne Cup Carnival is one of the few events where men are expected to display their true style with fantastic suits, ties, shoes and even hats.  While most of the blokes think that the race season is just a showcase for women to show their fashion prowess, they do not notice that the women are looking (and expecting ) that the men would match their dresses as well.

Skinny suits are always in for the season. As springtime and the excitement of the race brings warmth to the weather, accessories that match suits made of  lightweight wool, silk and cashmere are definitely the top choice in fabrics   Match your suit with great dark leather shoes and a belt.  If your man is the adventurous type and you are having a hard time finding gifts for him, have a try at some little changes and play with the accessories to liven up the mood. Three piece suits are the in thing this year with the classic combo raising the race wear standards at the Melbourne Cup.

Make His Outfit Stand Out In a Good Way

Trust that every fashionable male will wear a suit and a hat while on the race.  The game is won by matching his suit with the proper accessory that fits his built and personality.  The right accessories such as custom cufflinks and scarves make his style a class above the rest.  Do not let him wear a black suit.  Have him go for charcoal or navy colour instead. Lighter colours would suit younger men and would celebrate their youth.  Have him play around with different colours with his ties and handkerchiefs, but just make sure they aren’t an eye-sore for other people. Use light colours which can lift any outfit and mix it with bold colours to create an urbane and edgy men’s race wear look.

Always Remember.

Hats are definitely back in men’s fashion.  The gangster look is big and very much favoured and is completed with the loft hat.  Don’t forget to have him wear a matching pair of sunnies as well to protect his eyes and for that extra edge.  Wearing statement ties and socks are a NO NO. The key is to keep the getup professional and classy.   His belt and shoes should match ALL THE TIME, and grey shoes should be avoided for the races.  Have your man follow these tips to give him for a perfect time at the race.

Never Go Wrong in Men’s Fashion – Go Classic!

It can be very difficult for the modern man to stay abreast of the latest trends, especially if one leads a hectic lifestyle.  It can also be very time consuming to keep updated and do all the dirty work by making sure your most important fashion pieces never go out of style.  If you are tired of running around trying to keep yourself up to date with what is latest, simply don’t.  Simply go classic.  Here are some of the reasons why we believe that this is best for you.

2)      The classic style exudes elegance and power – Adding a matching cufflink to that shirt, having a trendy pocket hanky ready whenever needed, whipping out that classic money clip, pulling out a stylish compendium are just some of the little things that would make your style a cut above the rest.  It’s those little things that count.  Check out our latest collections and pick these elegant items that suit you.

3)      The classic style has been tested by time to be effective – The latest trends and fads would come and go, but a classical style will always look good even if the fashion police has decided to and an era.  It would then be cost effective for you to take care of your ties, cufflinks, and watches.  We offer a huge range of elegant tie and belt boxes, watch boxes, and tie holders, built to extend the life of your accessories.

Cufflinks Buying Guide- How To Find The Perfect Cufflinks

Whether you are buying for yourself or for someone else, cufflinks can be a tricky gift.  Indeed, they are small, but cufflinks are an essential part of formal wear and are used to express individual style and personality.

When buying men’s cufflinks, it is best to use the same process as you would for a watch or piece of jewellery and ask yourself the following questions:

1. What is the personality of the person wearing the cufflinks: Outgoing or reserved?

2. What is their dress sense like: Fashion-forward or classic? Young or mature?

3. What occasion are the cufflinks for: Wedding or special event? Business wear?

Once you establish the answers to these basic questions, you can begin searching for cufflinks. Here are some categories of cufflinks that may help you find the perfect pair.

Shape

The major decision when it comes to shape is circular/oval vs. square/rectangular. If you are buying them as a groomsmen gift, check out what they already own and stick with that shape as it seems to suit them the best. If you are buying your first pair, ask yourself if you prefer a classic square shape, or a modern circle shape.

Blue Mist Cat’s Eye Cufflinks work particularly well with a crisp white shirt and deep blue tie.

Classic Rectangular Cufflinks enhance all shades of grey with their muted silver tone.

Colour

Colour on cufflinks is a twofold decision, with the most important being silver or gold. The general rule is to match the cufflink metal with your belt, watch and ring- so if you predominantly wear silver metal then stick with that. If you have a mix of metals going on, match your cufflinks to the closest visible accessory (for example, your watch).

Cat’s Eye Royal Blue Mens’ Cufflinks will bring out the warm tones in a gold watch or belt to give your accessories a sparkling sheen.

Versatile White Cufflinks are an essential design for men who love to wear grey. Pair it up with a charcoal grey suit for a refreshingly modern look.

The next step is to choose single vs. multi toned cufflinks. Many men like to wear understated single coloured cufflinks, whereas others like to create visual drama by wearing gemstones, glass or patterned cufflinks. If he wears cufflinks often, then it is a safer bet to try something new and eye-catching, however if it’s for a special occasion or he will likely only have use for one pair – stick to a classic monotone cufflink.

Square Satin Monotone Cufflinks suit men who wear muted colours and classis patterns on their ties. These cufflinks complement paisley and geometric print ties perfectly.

Blue Shades Multi-toned Cufflinks add modern-retro flair to an otherwise plain look. Modernize a navy suit by wearing these cufflinks with a white shirt.

Details

Cufflinks don’t have to be plain and boring. For men who like to experiment with their look, cufflinks can provide an outlet to try something different. From Murano glass bulbs to novelty designs, cufflinks come in all sorts of shapes and motifs.

Price

Some cufflinks have been known to cost over $3000 a pair, but if that is not within your budget then don’t fret. Quality cufflinks can be bought for under $100, but if it’s for a special occasion then the sky (and your budget) really is the limit. Here are some stylish options that you can get for under $100:

Cufflink Watch- What The Celebrities Are Wearing

Celebrity bling is big business, and all of the top Hollywood stylists know that when it comes to red carpet mens fashion, less is more… or is it?  Men are taking more risks with accessorizing and the popularity of wearing cufflinks to formal events is once again rising. A small yet essential detail for a stylish formal look, cufflinks add that extra bit of luxury to any man’s outfit.

But what we all want to know is- what do the celebrities wear when it comes to cufflinks?

The answer, in short, is really expensive designer ones! Costing anywhere from $400 to over $3000 a pair, designer cufflinks do not come cheap. The average Joe can get a great pair of replicas for under $100, but for those who have the cash, why not splash?

Brad Pitt is a fan of Nathan Tim cufflinks, which retail at around $400 a pair. Made of stainless steel and Murano glass, these cufflinks are ultra-modern. Available in circle and oval shapes, these brightly-coloured little gems feature flower designs, tortoiseshell prints and retro circular patterns. For something truly unique, check out their white gold and dinosaur bone (yes, dinosaur bone) cufflinks for a cool $3195.

“Mesozoic era dinosaur bone accompanied by a 2mm round cognac diamond inset in brushed back button. Sixty-five million years old and unearthed form the American Southwest, this dinosaur bone comprises less than five percent of fossilized bone. The rich earthen tones are the direct result of interactions between soil minerals and the dinosaur, creating a unique link between the past and present. Bone color and pattern will vary slightly due to its unique nature.”

Cufflink Box – How to pick a box for your man

Cufflinks are a great accessory when wearing a French cuff shirt. But they are not just fashion accessories for men – over time cufflinks are also good investments. Some cufflinks are quite valuable especially if they contain precious stones or if they have sentimental value. If you are a serious cufflink collector should always have a cufflink box to store them safely. The cufflink storage case will protect your collection from potential damage. It will also look great! Check out www.malebox.net.au/Cufflink-box

For collectors of cufflinks, safe cufflink storage is a must. You can easily arrange your cufflink collection in a leather or wood cufflink storage case. Some choose to store by colour or by style. Because cufflink boxes have lined storage areas, you can group the cufflinks into several lines. On the other hand, if you really have a large collection, you can assign a cufflink box for each style. It’s really up to you. Most men prefer to just have all their cufflinks in one spot. The more cufflinks… the bigger the box! Continue reading

Where do I store my cufflinks?

Plenty of guys have a number of pairs of cufflinks but nowhere to store them. They are all thrown in together into a sock drawer or a small box only to be scratched, damaged or just end up being hard to find.

65% of malebox clients are women buying a cufflink and accessories box for the man in their life. Sick and tired of rummaging through 10 pairs of cufflinks and not being to find that other matching pair? If you want to be stylish, organised and tidy you need a proper cufflink box.

Cufflinks are a class addition to your attire, so don’t throw them in some box altogether where they may become scratched or damaged. Wearing scratched cufflinks is like wearing dirty shoes with a classy suit. Treat your cufflinks with care and you will enjoy them and keep them for the rest of your life.

Match your Ties and Cufflinks!

Do you wear the same cufflinks every day? Wouldn’t you prefer to be singled out for being a little different in your office? You put on a new tie and it looks great. Rather than wearing a pair of old cufflinks why not spruce them up with a new pair that matches exactly with your tie? People will notice!

Many men often ask me what they should wear with a french cuff shirt – in other words what tie matches with what cufflinks? It goes without saying that cufflinks can only be worn with a french cuff shirt. Under no circumstance can you wear cufflinks with a normal button up sleeve on your shirt! The best way to look smart is basically to match your tie to your cufflinks. For example, if you are wearing a striped blue tie, try and match it up with a blue pair of cufflinks which match at least one colour in the tie. Alternatively look for a striped pair of cufflinks which may contain a number of similar colours to the tie. If your tie has blue and pink in it – go with a pair of cufflinks which have blue and pink in it. I think you get the picture. If you only have a few pairs of cufflinks, make sure you get your hands on a classic pair which go with absolutely anything, like a plain pair of matt or shiny silver cufflinks like the malebox classic range. A plain silver pair of cufflinks can be worn with almost anything. Make sure the bottom of your tie goes to your belt buckle. Don’t forget, if your cufflinks have a silver or gold finish, be sure to match that with the colour of your belt buckle and your watch band.

Do you find it easier to get dressed in casual gear rather than suiting up?

Well… wearing a suit need not be difficult!

It is easy to match a shirt, cufflinks and tie combination. Better still, if you keep it simple you can look sharp and timeless, impressing others without effort. By keeping it simple it doesn’t mean boring. If you have a nice blue or charcoal suit a white or sky blue shirt will always match. I always go for a french cuff shirt and some nice cufflinks. It is good practice to match you cufflinks to your tie. If you have a limited selection of cufflinks go for a plain square shiny or matt silver pair to start with and go from there as your budget permits. You can find some classic silver cufflinks which go with absolutely anything you put together. Once you have a few pairs you can start to mix and match a bit more. We have designs which you can match exactly with a diagonal cufflink and tie combination or just a cufflink which is more versatile and goes with a number of ties. After a while it will come as second nature and dressing sharply with cufflinks will become the norm for you. Just remember, don’t try and put your hand through cufflinks already in he shirt unless you want to break them. You will probably have the cufflinks for the rest of your life if you take care of them. When you make the small effort in the morning or before a special function to match your cufflinks to you tie, you will be noticed and people will comment so be prepared!

Press Release – New Murano Glass Blown Cufflinks by malebox!

malebox are excited to announce their new range of Murano Glass Blown cufflinks hand made in Italy!

In the 7th century Murano put itself on the map as a commercial port and gradually grew into a prosperous trading centre. However it was only in 1291 Murano became really famous. To make these fantastic cufflinks materials are shred over glass, such as gold and silver foils, Murrinas Glass and smaller pieces of coloured glass. The process is time-consuming and requires huge skill and imagination by our artisans in order to create the colour combinations and different patterns within the glass for each cufflink.

We have worked directly with our master craftsman to deliver something totally unique. Each pair of cufflinks is individually handmade. Each cufflink is truly unique. Due to the way the cufflinks are made, no two cufflinks will be identical and the appearance may vary from the image shown but that just adds to the character of these truly stylish cufflinks.

Coloured cufflinks

Some people don’t like wearing coloured cufflinks as they find them a little too “out there”. They prefer plain, reliable cuff accessories, usually in a black and white combination or metallic ones. I think these people are missing opportunities to show their stylishness in adhering to this narrow mindset.

Green, red, purple and yellow coloured cufflinks can be perfect showing off your versatility, especially at the races or weddings, even in interviews (to a lesser extent). It is how you complement you shirt, tie and suit that makes you stand out in the crowd. You don’t necessarily require matching clothing or accessories to look good… the cufflink might just make it’s own statement. Just make sure it doesn’t completely clash with ehat you are wearing. Some good examples of coloured cufflinks can be seen in the malebox “versatile” range at http://www.malebox.net.au/Cufflinks/Versatile

Examples of cufflink materials include all the different metal varieties, plastic, rope, rubber, enamel or even fabric mounted onto a typical old school cufflink attachment.

History of cufflinks

The history of cufflinks goes back to the middle ages where its precursor the ‘cuff string’ adorned the wrists of fashionable gentlemen of the day. One of the earliest references to what we know recognise as cufflinks was made in the London Gazette of 1684 which referred to a pair of cuff buttons set with diamonds, the same journal in 1686 also described a pair of gold enamelled cuff buttons. More evidence of the existence of cufflinks in the middle ages was found in Suffolk, England when a decorated gold single chain cufflink was discovered also dating back to the 17th century.

Despite its early appearance the continual taste for adorning sleeve ends with elaborate wrist ruffles meant it was not until the mid-nineteenth century that the cufflink really came into its own as dandy-ish ruffles gave way to functionally minimal sleeves and in particular the arrival of the French Cuff (also called the Double Cuff) or as the French themselves called it poignet mousquetaire – the musketeers cuff, paving the way for the emergence proper of cufflinks.

Initially confined to the upper echelons of society, by the 1860’s cufflink grew into the mainstream as jewelers like Child & Child in London and Krementz & Co in New York brought out cufflinks that were within the price range of the wider public.

Cufflinks

A cufflink (also cuff link or cuff-link) is a decorative fastener worn by men or women to fasten the two sides of the cuff on a dress shirt or blouse.

Cufflinks are designed only for use with link cuffs (also known as French Cuffs or double cuffs), which have buttonholes on both sides but no buttons. These may be either single or double-length (“French”) cuffs, and may be worn either “kissing,” with the ends pinched together, or “barrel-style,” with one end overlapping the other. We usually recommend kissing cuffs.

Cufflink designs vary widely. The simplest design consists of a short post or chain connecting two disc-shaped parts. The part positioned on the most visible side is usually larger; a variety of designs can connect the smaller piece: It may be small enough to fit through the button hole like a button would; it may be separated and attached from the other side; or it may have a portion that swivels on the central post, aligning with the post while the link is threaded through the button-hole and swiveling into a position at right angles to the post when worn.

The visible part of a cufflink is sometimes monogrammed and often decorated in some way. There are numerous styles including novelty cufflinks, traditional cufflinks, contemporary cufflinks and humorous cufflinks.
